Cybersecurity For Beginners

More people than ever these days are involving the Internet in every aspect of their lives. Folks are depositing checks, investing their money, accessing their medical records, storing photographs, and communicating with friends, family, and co-workers over the Internet. Because so much of life is online these days, finding ways to protect your data, sensitive information, and documents safe from potential hackers is becoming very important. The process of protecting your online networks, data, and systems from various attacks and breaches is known as cybersecurity.

For those who are new to cybersecurity, this article will teach you the basics of the discipline, and explain who benefits from cybersecurity, and why becoming familiar with cybersecurity is extremely important in our post-COVID business world.

The Importance of Cybersecurity

Cybersecurity is important for any business, individual, or entity that uses the Internet. This is because our world today is so interconnected. Everything — from our banking information to our sensitive health information — is accessed, stored, and transferred online. Josh Feinblum, the former CSO at DigitalOcean, told a reporter recently that almost every aspect of our lives is now tracked on the Internet. Because of this, learning about cybersecurity is extremely vital for people of all ages and from all walks of life.

The interconnectedness of the world, as well as the amount of personal information we keep online, underscores the importance of cybersecurity. Robb Reck, the CISO of Ping Identity, explains the benefits of cybersecurity by suggesting that all Internet and technology users should understand the risks of accessing, storing, and sending their sensitive data and personal information over the Internet. Learning to control what you store, send, and share online is a great first step for cybersecurity beginners looking to boost the security of their digital footprint.

The Rise of Digital Crime During COVID-19

According to a recently released study by the FBI, the number of cybercrime complaints they received during the COVID-19 pandemic has been 400% higher than the amount of complaints they received before the pandemic began. In fact, the amount of complaints the FBI received has reached up to 4,000 complaints per day during the past year.

Nadir Izrael, the co-founder of cybersecurity firm Armis, explains that the cybersecurity landscape is growing at a tremendous rate because businesses and people throughout the United States are using technology and devices that are not properly protected. Hackers take advantage of these poorly protected devices to steal valuable personal information.
